My son’s artwork is on the cover of the Newton Community Education Kids Catalog. The backstory is that my son started 9th-grade last year. His high school closed during the COVID-19 pandemic about mid-March. More than a month later, his school went online but just for a few hours a day (and not every day). His school was supposed to end in early June, but then it got extended at the last minute for another week. For this extended time period, all his teachers assigned a project.
My son was really upset to suddenly have six projects when he thought he was done with school. I suggested that he combine projects. His art class assigned a piece on living through the pandemic. His health class had an assignment as well. This drawing combined both requirements.

A self-portrait in isolation
Artwork created in 9th grade
Copic Markers on Paper
His art teacher asked if she could present a few of his pieces to colleagues and, of course, I agreed. He used Copic Markers to create his self-portrait. Artists are always the worst self-critics. When he saw his artwork on the cover of the catalog, he grimaced and said that it’s bad. He thinks the proportion is off. He would like a do-over.
For those who are not familiar with Copic Markers, they are professional markers. You might have seen them on the desks of graphic artists who work at advertising agencies. They are expensive but the beauty is that they are refillable. They alcohol-based so they blend beautifully.

Wow! This is so exciting! He is very talented, and I know at least one of your other kids is a talented artist, too.
