Dragons and aliens and dinosaurs, oh my! And for girls, there are interesting slightly mischieveous girls to meet as well as cousins who are really sweet. Short chapter book series can often have repetitive plot lines about nothing or language that is neither rich nor interesting. There is something special about each of these book series for the child AND the adult reading along.
Top 10: Best Middle Grade Chapter Books by my 8yold Daughter (grades 3-7)
My middle daughter is so picky that she started her own blog on the things she likes. Getting her a book she likes for me is an education in getting reluctant readers to engage. Tonight at dinner she asked me to blog on her blog to drive traffic to it. Smart kid. I told her that she needs to put up 4 posts so that readers will know what her blog is about first. This is her second post but I changed the words to give you my opinion of why she likes the books since we have been reading partners all year.
Easy Harry Potter Series: Ghostville Elementary
My middle child highly recommends the Ghostville Elementary series by Marcia T. Jones. She says this is an easier version of Harry Potter that isn’t as scary for grades K-3. (K will need parents to read to them).
Clementine is the new Ramona
One of our favorite literary characters for my 8-year-old middle daughter and me is Clementine. She’s a cross between Ramona (of Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary) and Junie B. Jones by Barbara Park.
