It’s ironic that I blog excessively on children’s books, education and parenting; particularly the intersection of all three but my best blog post is, of all things, on kickboxing.

I like to find books for kids to mark all occasions, answer questions and just generally entertain and deeply satisfy. And I do have educational and children’s book posts that make my Top 10 for 2012 in terms of traffic. Muay Thai Kickboxing for Moms

I am excited to have a new Muay Thai Kickboxing instructor. My Dad Friend Mike is a Golden Gloves champion. He’s also the father of my son’s best friend since before preschool. Before Dad Friend Mike had kids, he had a basement Fight Club with various MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) Fighters beating each other up by invitation only. Which is to say, one martial art fighter against another to see who wins. And so he knows various and sundry characters in and around Boston. And I do emphasize the word “characters!” Read more…

Kickboxing with My Girls and Our ‘The Situation’-like Sensei

I thought it would be fun for me and my two girls to take kickboxing lessons together. Mother/Daughter bonding and all that. Our first lesson was eye-opening. Our Sensei was six feet of muscle with an accent and attitude out of Jersey Shore, the reality TV show. I think he missed his calling. It turns out he’s a MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) guy with Kempo, Jujitsu, Boxing and I suspect, a little Muay Thai Kickboxing, thrown in. Read more…
