Near Fort Myers and yet so far away is North Captiva Island, a barrier reef island that is only accessible by ferry. You might have heard of Captiva but this is a different place altogether. North Captiva doesn’t allow cars so it’s just golf carts, bikes, boats and walking for transportation on the island. And did I mention that it’s also a bird sanctuary? Be prepared to see an abundance of wild creatures from egrets to dolphins to manatees.

Ideas and resources for planning a family reunion vacation. These are the actual family reunion vacations I’ve planned and taken.
Family Reunion Vacations: Bermuda
Bermuda would make a great family reunion vacation spot. What is not to like about Bermuda? Pink sand beaches. Friendly people. Crystal clear aquamarine blue ocean. Good food. The only downside is that it is a little pricey. Here are our favorite places to stay and eat, fun things that we enjoyed doing, and some recipes to make Bermudian specialties.
Family Reunion Vacations: San Antonio, Texas!
We had the best time in San Antonio over February school break. It was freezing in Massachusetts and while San Antonio got a freakish dump of snow that was two weeks ago and we enjoyed a week of temps in the 50-70 degree Fahrenheit range! I think the key to this trip was The River Walk. Miles of meandering paths along the Venice-like canals chock full of small waterfalls and restaurants was a most pleasant way to get exercise and entertainment!
Family Reunion Vacations: Kennebunk, Maine
This was our 5th vacation in the Kennebunk/Kennebunkport, Maine area and we’ve always had a wonderful time. This year, however, the kids said it was the best vacation ever. What was on the agenda: a fishing trip aboard the Allyson, surfing lessons, The Children’s Museum in Portland, and, of course, our favorite tide pool spot.
Family Reunion Vacations: Kennebunkport, Maine, The Colony Hotel
This was our second Family Reunion Vacation trip and it was based on my family’s two previous pleasant summer seaside vacation and I have to say that results were so good that I absolutely recommend The Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport, Maine if you are looking for a New England Beach family reunion destination.
