My brother-in-law turned me on to the Golden Apple Toy Awards, from GreatSchools, which are really great educational but fun toys vetted by kids, parents and teachers. I added a few more time-tested toys that we’ve used over and over for the last decade at my house.
WeightNot is a comprehensive system that combines education, behavioral modification around selecting and preparing real, whole foods, a diet protocol that allows for rapid, healthy weight loss (targeting fat), and nutritional supplements (antioxidants, vitamins, fiber, etc.) to combat the many obstacles that can otherwise cause you to fail. The shortest plan is 7 days which strikes me as a good way to check this program out. I am giving away a 7 Day Detox Program. Average weight loss if 4 to 11 lbs. Retail value is $260. Please leave a comment to be eligible to win.
I find that now that I am of a certain age (ahem … mid forties), I am experimenting with serums, night creams and the like and also, in general, trying to take better care of my skin. It’s overwhelming, however, to figure out what the best products are for me. My approach was to analyze all the posts in my new favorite beauty blog, Into the Gloss, and see what products came up over and over and over again. This is that list. Please let me know what products are your favorites and I’ll add to the list.
Thank goodness the heat wave has passed here in New England. With a heat index of over 110 degrees this past week, the heat was unbearable and the air stifling. It seems we New Englanders always have our windows closed between the bitter cold and the sweltering heat. Finally, some respite this week. I have kept the windows open throughout the house today to air it out and that reminded me of the nice people at Anderson who offered to do a giveaway for a window gadget that keeps kids from falling out and hurting themselves.
The people at Pfizer emailed me to let me know that Children’s Advil and Infant Advil was never part of the recent spate of recalls as summer cold season is upon us all and they wanted to also offer readers a coupon for Children’s Advil. If you fill out a short form, you will receive a coupon from them.
What are best and safest sunscreens according to 2011 guidelines? I researched and found these through Consumer Reports, Dagmar’s Momsense, and the Environmental Working Group (EWG). Summer is finally here and we’ll all be needing sunscreen and lots of it and the FDA Guidelines will stress how no sunscreen is water proof and needs to be applied frequently.
Favorite Family Movies I wanted to get more active on BlogFrog so when they asked me if I wanted to participate in a conversation with RedBox, I said yes. The topic of the conversation is what is your family’s favorite movie and how many times have you watched it?!
I grew up in a Southern California beach town, so you’d think that I’d have known about Sanuk for a while. Well … actually no. There are nary a surf shop near where I live but luckily my sister and her family came to visit last summer and she lives near the beach and a myriad of surf shops. She had a pair on and she made me try it. It was sooo much more cushiony than Reef flip flops which I normally wear plus these were cuter. Sanuk is also ecologically friendly and are made of recycled yoga mats.
As a parent whose youngest (and only 6-years-old!) is already attempting to spend every waking hour in front of a screen, I thought I’d suggest some ideas for getting reluctant readers excited about reading in the vein of “if you can’t beat them, join them.” Or a corollary: “Let’s be sneaky and use electronics as a Trojan horse to present reading in a different light.” I’ve been blogging about these ideas that I’ve discovered over the past year and I’m pretty excited about them. Let me know what you think and if they work for you.
