How To: Select a Music Teacher

How to Hire a Music Teacher for Your Kids

My sister is a piano teacher in California. She has a three-year wait list and her students have rich and rigorous experience that includes not just the requisite recital, but monthly performance workshops, classical musical competitions, and juried piano recitals to earn certifications of merit. Her students are serious about piano and practice everyday and the time commitment is a significant one.

Great Science-y Middle Grade Fiction for ages 8-14

Since this post revolved around the space-time continuum and time travel, I wanted to include this link from my fav science (fiction-y) blog io9 on the 10 Coolest Time Machines in the Space Time Continuum. I think this is possibly the scenario for time travel by the laughing man in When You Reach Me. He had to travel in his birthday suit and could only carry what fit in his mouth– in his case, a small stack of notes. This is #3 on the Top 10 list by io9. Read more…

Top 10: Best Middle Grade Chapter Books by my 8yold Daughter (grades 3-7)

Best Books for 4th Grade

My middle daughter is so picky that she started her own blog on the things that she likes. Getting her a book she likes for me is an education in getting reluctant readers to engage. Tonight at dinner she asked me to blog on her blog to drive traffic to it. Smart kid. I told her that she needs to put up 4 posts first so that readers will know what her blog is about. This is her second post but I changed the book descriptions. If you want her opinion on why she likes these books, please read her post at Picky Kid Pix. (She’d be delighted with some traffic and she doesn’t mince words!). Read more…
