Math Facts Games for Kids

Math Games That Are Really Fun

Mid-year progress reports came out at my elementary school and all of a sudden, we realized that our kids need extra practice with math facts! Several of my Mom Friends emailed me so I thought I would share our plan of attack. The first thing to do is not to panic. Math facts are like practicing a sport or learning an instrument. Slow and steady wins the race. And, just like for your child’s sports or instrument, you don’t want to burn them it. THIS MUST BE FUN!

Abraham Lincoln Top Hat Craft and Book for Kids

Abe Lincoln Craft and Book

In honor of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, the Historic Museum in my town is doing a workshop for kids that combines reading a biography picture book with an art project. Unfortunately, we can’t attend the event that day because we are so over scheduled we will be watching The Road to Nowhere during that time. I’m kidding. The showing for The Road to Nowhere was actually last week in my local theater. Here’s the irony on that: you had to buy a ticket in advance and it sold out. I guess that is a way to screen out the slacker moms who shouldn’t be there anyway. Read more…

How To: Tell Your Child Needs Help in Math

Does Your Child Struggle with Math?

I found this at GoldStudent. They make online math worksheets:

Children can need help in math whether they are at grade level, working above their grade, or if they are struggling to keep up.  But few children will speak up and simply say help me in math! Instead, children react in many ways to math at school. They could be bored, frightened, they might lack motivation, they may need more drilling, or they may need more opportunities to take tests to reduce their stress or fears. Read more…

Science Projects for Middle School Kids

Science Projects for Kids

My Dad Friend had previously suggested The Birds and Bees Sex Talk which was very popular  so I have been hounding him for other topic suggestions since he seems to have his pulse on parenting issues.  He was stressed out about his kids’ science projects for school. His 6th grader just had a Science Fair Day where everyone exhibited their school science projects and I bugged him so much he actually blackberried me the projects he saw as he walked around the room. DIY Yoga for Kids to Try at Home

I met Bea more than ten years ago when both of our oldest children were at the same preschool. Our girls weren’t even in the same class but we both had sleeping toddler girls in strollers that first painful week when we were required to wait for hours on a different floor just in case our preschoolers freaked out. At least, that is my version of the school policy. Read more…

Time Travel Adventure Books for Middle School

Time can’t exist without space, and space can’t exist without time. The two exist as one: the space-time continuum.

Any event that occurs in the universe has to involve both space and time.

If you could travel on a beam of light,  time slows down and distances tend to shorten, particularly if you are near a massive object like a sun or planet.

I honestly didn’t expect to like this action adventure thriller as much as I did. True, I LOVE Percy Jackson and the Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan but  it is because of the mythology mixed in that makes me pre-order the books before they come out. Read more…
