Best Math Work Books

Yes I am that kind of mom that believes in summer math. Math is a learned skill not a gift of genetics. It’s like a shark; either you are moving forwards or you die. Ok, you don’t actually die but you start to forget and when September rolls around, you’ve gone backwards from where you were in June. Read more…

Dear Flyary, alien books for boys

Best Books for Kids Who Like Aliens that Build Vocabulary!

Best Alien Books for Boys

My 7-year-old son loves alien books. While some boys are put off by the weird Alien language, he thinks it’s funny. I read Henry P. Baloney to his Kindergarten class the week he was the Star of the Week, and I noticed most of the kids did not find the book as funny as we do. Author Jon Scieszka in a sly use of foreign language onomatopoeia, uses words from almost two dozen languages that kind of sound like English words in this engaging picture book. Read more…

It’s funny because I have had this list as a “draft” for over a year. I’m not sure if I am exactly qualified to post on best world religion books for kids because I rarely grace the inside of a church these days and my background in religious studies is spotty to say the least. Best Math Apps for Kids in 2nd and 3rd grade

Best Math Apps for 2nd and 3rd Grade

We just had parent teacher conferences a month or so ago, and now it’s time to shore up areas of weaknesses as the school year winds to a close in less than 30 school days, or so my kids eagerly tell me as they count down. My mom friend Liz had asked me for iPhone and iPad math apps for her two girls in 2nd and 3rd grade. She wants to work on math facts with her girls. Then another mom friend Julie asked for a list for her 2nd grade daughter. It seems we were all seeking fun math apps to make practicing math facts fun — addition, subtraction for sure, but a little multiplication and division as well. Read more…
