Book Recommendations for 6th Grade by 6th Grade Boy

HI! My name is Josh and I’m 11 years young. I just happened to come across your website as I was searching for some books. I looked over a few of your lists and I found some very interesting books! I thought that I could send in some recommendations, but I found most of mine on one of your lists! I saw The Mysterious Benedict Society on a list which is my all-time favorite books! I’ve also read Savvy, which is my 3rd favorite book. So her are a few books that I just want to recommend. Read more…

4th Grade Book Club: Retold Modern Fairy Tales

Retold Modern Fairy Tales

The Witch’s Guide to Cooking with Children is a modern retold fairy tale chapter book. My middle daughter’s book club read it for the December meeting and it paired nicely with Gingerbread House decorating. The five girls in her book club all thought the book was funny; the idea of a witch living in your hometown is intriguing! Just like Hansel and Gretel which this book riffs off of, the story is an adventure with a daring rescue. Read more…

Neti Pot Effective Pollen Allergy Cure

After reading about the amoeba problem (that kills you) with the Netti Pot if you don’t use sterilized water, my Mom Friend Gwen found something better. It’s called the Grossan Hydro Pulse Nasal and Sinus Irrigation System, developed by a doctor. It’s like a Braun toothbrush system but for your nose/sinuses. It’s $78. She swears by it and I want to get one if I can make space for it in our tiny bathroom. Read more…

ABCs to Learn about Me

I first read about this from CraftWhack who got it from Two Adults, One Brown Baby. Then, Doodles and Jots did it, and she says she got the idea from  Mrs. Irritation,  Saly, as well as the aforementioned CraftWhack and Two Adults, One Brown Baby. So I am joining this bandwagon! Learn more about me by reading my ABCs. Read more…

Barcelona Family Vacation

The kids and I have been studying Spanish for years with very little success. My oldest started at 4 and her siblings even younger. My fantasy for early foreign language skills was so that we could go to a Spanish-speaking country and actually be able to get around IN SPANISH, with the kids speaking helpful phrases with their perfect accents. Yeah, this is still a fantasy! Read more…

Easy Strategies to Learn Multiplication Facts

I was in my middle daughter’s 3rd grade classroom today as the guest reader when I found this gem on the white board.  My daughter chose Danny, the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl so I read the first few chapters to the class which has  the story of The B.F.G. (Big Friendly Giant) snuck in.  The B.F.G. is another book by Roald Dahl that kids seem to consistently rave about and many of the kids in her class had already read it and nodded their heads happily when I asked them if they liked it.  I was able to tell them about Roald Dahl Day in England — September 13, his birthday — and her teacher is planning an author study this Spring which will make my daughter very happy because she is chugging along through all his books.
