Best Math Apps for Kids in 2nd and 3rd grade

Best Math Apps for 2nd and 3rd Grade

We just had parent teacher conferences a month or so ago, and now it’s time to shore up areas of weaknesses as the school year winds to a close in less than 30 school days, or so my kids eagerly tell me as they count down. My mom friend Liz had asked me for iPhone and iPad math apps for her two girls in 2nd and 3rd grade. She wants to work on math facts with her girls. Then another mom friend Julie asked for a list for her 2nd grade daughter. It seems we were all seeking fun math apps to make practicing math facts fun — addition, subtraction for sure, but a little multiplication and division as well. Read more…

Free eBooks for Tween Boys: Worst Case Scenario Novel Adventures

Make Your Own Ending Adventure Books for Boys

I pretty much love everything about this book concept:

  • It’s based on the very popular Worst Case Scenario books.

  • It’s a novel, a graphic novel, and an If/Then game all in one. Read more…

5 Tips for Exercising After Giving Birth

Getting Back in Shape After Giving Birth

Please welcome my guest author Katie Moore, of Moore From Katie. I have a vague recollection of post-pregnancy fitness. It was limited to walking around Boston with my baby in Baby Bjorn or in a stroller. When we moved up to a double stroller, the workouts from pushing two kids around intensified. Read more…

Maximum Ride + Hunger Games = 2108: Eyes Open by K L Glanville

Science Fiction Thriller for Teens

It’s the year 2108. I just turned 16. That means I can access the autopilot on my Aerokopa. So now, I can both fly and scope the Dat-X at the same time. But what good is that when I don’t even have a date to my best friend’s party of the century? Okay, well, one of the Holdouts offered to go with me . . . but there’s NO WAY I’m going with one of them! And then there are the Trollers docked at the quay. They’re most likely spies working with the Aliens, bringing nothing but trouble. But with this visit, they may even bring war. It would be treason to talk to them, let alone . . . befriend one. But what’s a curious girl to do? Did I tell you I have a propensity for trouble? Read more…

Are Crabs Crabby? And Other Egregious Misconceptions

Why are Crabs Crabby? And Picture Books on Crabs

Does this crab not look like it should be in an animated carton?

I found this crab on vacation on Florida. He,  or it could have easily been a she-crab, RULED the beach that day. The crab seemed completely nonplussed that humans were around and, as I stared it down, I actually thought it was dead. Not so, just winning the staring contest apparently. Read more…

How Not to Blow Up Your Blog

If Your Blog Doesn’t Blow Up Every Six Months … well, you are not really trying, or that seems to be the case for me. Let’s see, let me count the ways.
