Postcards from Malcolm X: How Yuri Kochiyama Became a Human Rights Activist by Mia Wenjen, illustrated by Keith Henry Brown, and published by Red Comet Press.

This is the story of a life-changing friendship. Yuri Kochiyama would credit her friendship with Malcolm X as the teacher and inspiration for becoming an advocate for justice.

When he traveled to Africa for the second time, he promised to write her and sent her a series of postcards, including one from Oxford, England, that said, “I read all of your wonderful cards and letters and I think you are the most beautiful family in Harlem.” [picture book, ages 7 and up]
