During our Hawaii vacation, I purposely did not bring my computer. Instead, I packed a small watercolor kit with the intention of finishing a sketchbook during that trip. I had watched Taria of Taria’s Sketchy Adventures on YouTube create a beautiful memory book by urban sketching her vacation.
I wasn’t able to paint every day, so I finally had to count the number of pages by the number of days that I had left, and try to make up for lost time. I needed to fill 4 or 5 page spreads with my remaining time.
This meant that I put in several painting sessions each day, trying to paint what I saw. Luckily, we were near the beach with gorgeous views in every direction. There were also flowers and wild chickens, some of my favorite subjects to paint.
By the end of our trip, I didn’t manage to fill my sketchbook, but I took photos to finish up at home. This is the final result:
I think the full page spreads of the beach are my favorite paintings. I’m still learning how to paint water. I did enjoy the challenge of trying to paint on vacation. I will try the sketchbook vacation challenge again!
