What Celebrities' Favorite Pizza Toppings Can Teach Us About Getting Kids to Eat Healthier

What Celebrities’ Favorite Pizza Toppings Can Teach Us About Getting Kids to Eat Healthier

Posted on February 15, 2026March 19, 2026 by Pragmatic Mom

Many fathers and mothers struggle with dealing with picky-eating kids, and something as fun and customizable as pizza is no exception. Despite having options, you might wonder why your child prefers plain cheese or pepperoni rather than trying new options. Fortunately, you can use relatable examples from celebrities to motivate your little one to try something new.

Celebrity Pizza Picks

Explore a list of pizza topping ideas from your and your child’s favorite stars to inspire them to eat healthy.

  • Gaten Matarazzo’s Pineapples on Pizza

Pineapples are the pizza topping that has divided the world for the longest time. However, “Stranger Things” actor Gaten Matarazzo admitted to his love for this controversial topping. In an interview with Yahoo!, the actor shared his preferred pizza toppings — pineapple, bacon, and pepperoni.

This is a classic lesson in being bold and liking what you like without guilt, even if others don’t. Gaten is not afraid of pineapple, so your child shouldn’t be either. This is something worth remembering when adding pineapples to your list of pizza topping ideas.

  • Mindy Kaling’s Homemade Pizza

“The Office” star Mindy Kaling had the same goal as any parent in the world — to have their kids eat nutritious vegetables. The actress recorded her pizza roll-making journey, adding spinach, parmesan and mozzarella on the dough. Mindy demonstrated that making pizza at home can be a fun family bonding activity.

When kids have a hand in making their food, they gain a sense of pride, making them far more likely to eat it. Consider a homemade pizza or make-your-own-salad party wherein each family member adds a topping of their choice.

  • LeBron James’s Protein-Packed Pizza

Many people might think athletes follow a strict diet, but LeBron James proves that there’s always room for pizza. The athlete enjoys having 16 toppings on his pizza — parmesan cheese, spicy sauce, extra mozzarella, grilled chicken, green peppers, turkey meatballs, red onions, banana peppers, fresh basil, garlic, arugula, oregano, spinach, salt, olives, and olive oil drizzle.

LeBron’s protein-rich toppings are a great idea for active kids. If they want to run fast on the soccer field or have more energy to play, they should eat a variety of foods like LeBron. This is a great way to make eating healthy sound powerful.

  • Ariana Grande’s Vegan Pizza

Singer and actress Ariana Grande loves a vegan pizza> with tomato sauce, fresh tomatoes, broccolini, oyster mushrooms, and rosemary crust. Ariana is living proof that pizzas can be enjoyable, no matter your dietary preferences.

Use Ariana’s preferences to introduce your kids to delicious and colorful vegetables they can put on a pizza, sandwich, or plate, such as bell peppers, spinach, olives, onions, or artichokes. The dough is their canvas, and they can fill it with as many colors and flavors as they please.

  • Jamie Oliver’s Strange Pizza

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver proves that there are no rules when it comes to pizza-making. His pizza has olive oil, sausage, pine nuts, red onion, dried tomato pesto, and grapes. While not the first delicious topping you have in mind, the world-famous food expert thinks it’s a total game-changer.

If there’s anything to learn about Chef Jamie’s sentiment, it’s that pizza-making is all about pure experimentation. Encourage your kid to ask, “What if we tried this and that?” This gives you the perfect opportunity to suggest trying other sweet and savory combinations, like pear and prosciutto, or apple and cheddar.

How to Get Kids to Try Healthier Pizza Toppings

Encouraging your child to eat nutritious foods can be challenging, but if celebrities and their creative pizza topping ideas have taught parents anything, it’s that it’s always possible to introduce kids to new flavors at any stage. Here are some tips to help your family explore healthier topping options.

Host a “Celebrity Topping Draft”

Cooking is a beautiful activity that brings the entire family together. To make it even more fun, host a game where each family member recreates their chosen celebrity’s favorite pizza. Treat this as an opportunity to teach and share your techniques and recipes with your kid. Once pizzas are cooked, everyone takes a bite and celebrates the experience.

Include At Least One Favorite Food

Including a familiar food, such as plain cheese or ham, on the pizza can help your child feel more comfortable and confident when faced with new foods. Gradually introduce new, nutritious ingredients as your child gets used to the flavors and textures. This gentle approach can help reduce any hesitation and make trying new foods a more positive experience.

Map Your Family’s Flavor Profile

After trying new toppings, invite everyone to share what they enjoyed most and what they’d love to try again. Use a whiteboard or a printable chart with star ratings and smiley faces to make the activity fun. This practice turns discovering new tastes into an ongoing family project that kids will look forward to.

Focus on Progress, Not Perfection

The secret to getting your child to try new foods is positive framing, not force. Using relatable examples from celebrities can help transform an unfamiliar ingredient from scary to exciting. For your next pizza night, remember to serve an adventure. Try new recipes at home, get creative with toppings, and have fun.
