I loved the floral arrangements created to reflect a work of art. This is a fundraiser for the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA).
I think it’s such a challenge to translate a work of art into something three-dimensional, such as a floral arrangement. It gets even tougher when the work of art is also three-dimensional, such as a sculpture or a vase.
You can also turn the floral arrangements from Art in Bloom into an art project for kids by:
- Paint or draw your own floral version of a work of art
- Paint or draw the floral arrangement created for Art in Bloom at the MFA
- Discuss how the floral arrangement captured (or didn’t) the spirit of the art piece
- Choose your favorite floral arrangement and explain why
- Do you like the floral arrangement or the work of art more, and why
There are no wrong answers! Flower arrangement is also an art form!
This was the first floral arrangement that I saw, and there was a huge crowd, so it took me a while to get a photo without anyone in the way. The vase was created to reflect the furniture pieces, which is pretty amazing! It’s a work of art in itself. I thought this might be the winner of Best in Show for me.
I would wear this dress; I think it’s so beautiful and timeless. The florists are allowed to use any natural material, and the woven leaves are a genius touch that really captures the shape of the dress. This is another Best in Show piece for me!
The vase captures the period of the portrait, and the flowers and leaves are a creative way to depict the scene. The floral arrangement is so beautiful!
I overheard the docent describe this piece, saying that the florist chose to reflect the lotus flowers in the sculpture. This is one of my favorites. It really captures the spirit of the intricate and delicate sculpture.
I would have been so bummed if I had to figure out how to represent a silver chalice with flowers. There are no silvery, reflective flowers! This interpretation is quite creative!
The lion sculpture is lovely, but I’d be at a loss as to how to create a floral version of it! I didn’t even know roses came in this color. The florist designer used other shades of magenta to represent the shadows. I’m impressed with this effort!
I thought the floral designer nailed it, and that is not easy to do!
