I had the great honor of sitting next to Nikki Grimes at my first Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival and it was wonderful to see her again this past one a few months ago. She told me about her newest picture book, A Cup of Quiet, and offered to share a poem.
It is such a beautiful picture book! I hope you all get a chance to enjoy it! We are giving away a copy of A Cup of Quiet. To enter, please fill out the Rafflecopter at the bottom.

From A Cup of Quiet by Nikki Grimes
“I stop by the roses…
and catch a bee making a racket.
I snap up a handful of his buzzing
and drop it in the cup,
then crouch low to the ground
at the sound of a lizard
scuttling across a dried leaf.
I spoon up that crackling sound
and add it to
the bee’s buzz…”

This poetry month has opened my eyes to so many new books! My favorite multigenerational book is Nana Upstairs and Nana Downstairs by Tomie dePaola.
In the “newer” to me books, I would include ‘When Lola Visits’ by Michelle Sterling. In classics, I fall back on ‘Nana Upstairs and Nana Downstairs’, and for older kids the ‘All of a Kind Family’ and their depiction of multigenerational life.
My Papi has a Motorcycle
I liked to read fasza is a fighter with my kids!
Old to Joy by Anita Crawford Clark
Going Down Home With Daddy by Kelly Starling Lyons, Peaches by Gabriele Davis, and I have to say my upcoming release, A Season For Fishin’, A Fish Fry Tradition.
