This was only my second time to attend the ALA conference.
Thank you to Red Comet Press for sponsoring me! I was thrilled to do a book signing of my first picture book with Red Comet Press, We Sing from the Heart: How the Slants® Took Their Fight for Free Speech to the Supreme Court, illustrated by Victor Bizar Gomez. It doesn’t come out until October 15, 2024, but Red Comet Press did a special print run to introduce it to the world at ALA!
I also did a book signing for Food for the Future: Sustainable Farms Around the World, illustrated by Robert Sae-Heng at the Barefoot Books booth.
Red Comet Press invited me to a dinner with other authors and notables, as well as to the APALA dinner which was amazing! I only wish that I had room in my suitcase to get signed books by the winners and honorees!
My friend Tim Ditlow invited me as his guest to attend the Coretta Scott King Awards Breakfast. It was worth the 5:30 am wake-up call as I needed to check out of my hotel and walk to meet Tim about a half hour away.
I saw so many authors and publishers at ALA; it was so fun to meet everyone and/or reconnect!
