My middle daughter is studying abroad at the National University of Singapore (NUS) for one semester. Her dormitory at the College of Alice and Peter Tan, to our surprise, is not air-conditioned! It is a well-appointed single — all the rooms are singles — with a shared bathroom for the floor. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the armoire includes many drawers, and there is also a narrow bookcase, and side table with file cabinet drawers included.
There was a small snafu when we first tried to move in. The room she was assigned was already occupied. It was an easy fix with a new dorm room key so the order of the day was to figure out how to cool down her 9th-floor room.
After a few trips to search out air cooler devices, we settled on a personal air cooler, Air Leo, that only needed water, not ice. Finally, my daughter figured out how to get a personal air conditioner for her room and that has been the best solution.
The NUS campus is gorgeous. Like Singapore, it’s a city with lush green spaces. Since it’s a tropical climate, we noticed plants that we only use here in the United States as house plants. On campus, they grow in abundance.
This was my first time in Singapore and I hope to return. How about you? Have you visited Singapore? What are some of your favorite places? Thanks for sharing!
