I will be presenting my “story behind the story” of Food for the Future: Sustainable Farms Around the World to the Massachusetts Association for the Education of Young Children (MAAEYC) on Saturday, April 13th at the Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary.
It started with a visit to an oyster farm in Duxbury, a visit to my ancestral family’s terraced rice fields in Hiroshima, Japan, and a salt pond glimpsed on a vacation in Kauai, Hawaii. Included are both indigenous examples and new technology in this workshop about how sustainability in farming means food for future generations.
A free discussion and activity guide is available for download. My book is recommended for preschool through third grade.
