My kids grew up eating Filipino food but just a few basics that we know how to prepare ourselves such as “Sour Soup” or Sinigang, and pork Adobo. I searched for Filipino restaurants in the Boston area but the only one specializing in Filipino cuisine closed down during Covid and never reopened.
When we visited our middle daughter in Chicago, I searched for Filipino restaurants in the area and it was a gold mine! There is even a Michelin-starred Filipino restaurant in Chicago, Kasama.
It was Family Weekend so a fancy restaurant wasn’t really in the cards for us. My daughter wanted us to meet some of her friends’ parents who were also in town. My husband, son, and I flew in, starving, and decided to check out Tita Mia’s Filipino Restaurant & Cafe for lunch, just to see if it would be a good place for a larger group.
My son was particularly delighted with the fried fish and happily went back that evening for dinner. I ordered all the specialties that I had been curious to try like Crispy Pata Pork, deep-fried fish, and Tinola Chicken soup because my daughter was under the weather.
It was a fun and festive meal! My son has asked to return there but here’s hoping that a Filipino restaurant will open soon in Boston. In the meantime, I will be trying to make more Filipino dishes at home.
How about you? Have you tried Filipino food? What dishes do you recommend? Thanks for your suggestions!
