My son’s 12 grade art exhibit included a case of his work for being an Art Major for four years. His self-portrait was also on display in his art classroom. This was his first attempt at using oil paint. He’s also painting a two-panel mural.
I include his beleaguered Danny Davito drawing which was rejected for his mural project. It’s one of my favorite pieces of his.
Do any of his pieces stand out to you? He’d be thrilled if you left a comment about one of them. Thank you!

Mia, all of your kids are so talented!! This is amazing work. He will go far. I love the Danny Devito piece. So clever and well done. (They should’ve included it!) So impressed.

Thanks Dee! He wasn’t able to submit it in his portfolio OR paint a mural of it in his high school but it’s one of my favorite pieces of his. It definitely shows his sense of humor!
So much hard work! Keep searching and experimenting. Someone once told me “Your art is your friend”. You have a good friend. Best of luck.
Thanks so much, Sandra! He does seem to enjoy creating art!
Wow. His self portrait is really striking–both in its artistic strengths and in the way he seems to look out from the canvas in an expression that is both challenging and vulnerable. That’s the age, maybe, or perhaps what I’m feeling is the invitation to try to understand a stranger. Your son has done what a good artist does: he has me thinking, considering, then reconsidering, all while admiring his work.
And the Danny Devito piece is great! I see the humor, but I think it also shows pathos and vulnerability. I hope you’ll post more of his work as time goes on, as much as he is comfortable with. What an interesting person he must be.
