Dual diagnosis adolescent treatment centers for trauma

Dual diagnosis adolescent treatment centers for trauma

Posted on October 29, 2023January 8, 2024 by Pragmatic Mom

I have had several relatives who suffered from both a mental disorder coupled with drug misuse. It can be very challenging for their loved ones to know what to do and how to best respond. Here is some helpful research and resources.

Dual diagnosis implies someone who suffers from both a mental disorder and a drug misuse. Research on dual diagnosis looks into the availability and efficacy of therapies for enhancing aspects of either diagnosis, such as functioning, quality of life, symptomatology, or cognitive issues. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) from the most recent year found that 9.2 million adult Americans suffered from both a mental illness and a substance use disorder.

Addiction and substance misuse can coexist with another mental condition, something that many individuals are unaware of. Dual diagnosis is a situation in which an individual has been diagnosed with more than one mental health condition. To maximize the odds of success, treatment plans for individuals with co-occurring mental health issues, trauma, and addictions must address both conditions concurrently.

Dual diagnosis teen residential treatment centers can be found in areas like Palm Springs, Malibu, and other beautiful settings, as well as in larger California cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego. Before enrolling at a facility, people who have a dual diagnosis are advised to inquire about the center’s capabilities.

Treatment for Dual Diagnosis in Adolescent Patients

Some individuals take illicit drugs as a kind of self-medication due to an underlying trauma or mental health issue. Addictions and mental diseases were once seen as two distinct problems that could not be addressed together. This regrettable notion has misled many people, and they have not received the necessary treatment to quit their addiction.

It becomes imperative to stress the value of dual diagnosis treatment for teenagers because regardless of which condition arose first, the trauma or Substance use disorder both need to be treated concurrently in order for the patient to make a full recovery. With the help of a trained psychotherapist, the adolescent can discover hidden emotional suffering and get insight into the causes of their SUD as well as any trauma, including PTSD, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, or other mental health issues. It is possible to create a personalized and successful treatment plan by using this comprehensive approach.

An integrated approach to treating dual diagnosis aims to investigate and treat the co-occurring substance use disorder together with any underlying mental health conditions that may be present in the patient. Sequential treatment was the primary approach to treating addiction in the past. Clinicians distinguished between addiction therapy and other mental health treatments in the sequential approach. The substance abuse problem would be handled prior to the trauma in a person with both an alcohol use disorder and depression.
In an attempt to treat addiction first, the sequential model largely disregarded other mental health issues, and this strategy frequently overlooked the variety of ways that mental illness affects addiction. Even today, a lot of dual-diagnosis treatment programs do not accept patients since treating them needs a more customized approach.

The following intensive therapy modalities are used in dual diagnosis treatment:

  • Dialectical behavior therapy
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Contingency management
  • Rehabilitative communities
  • Proactive community care

The more comprehensive approach of dual diagnosis treatment takes into account important factors that may lessen an individual’s chances of making a full recovery.

Below are dual-diagnosis treatment centers for trauma.

Key HealthCare

In order to guarantee that teenagers receive complete and accurate diagnoses, Key Healthcare screens for co-occurring disorders alongside any trauma the adolescent patient may have. Screening aids in the development of the best treatment plans for adolescents admitted to their facilities. The center approaches Dual diagnosis from three main perspectives: integrated, parallel, and sequential treatment. The treatment team creates a customized addiction treatment plan combining behavioral and pharmaceutical therapies that can address both problems in order to treat people with dual disorders.

Key Healthcare provides teens with comprehensive, integrated treatment plans that address both their drug use and mental health issues at the same time.

Their dual diagnosis programs put a lot of effort into comprehending the teen’s circumstances and creating a customized treatment plan for each patient. You will receive education about trauma and the resources you need to maintain sobriety from both qualified psychiatrists and skilled addiction counselors who can accurately assess you for mental illness.

Montare Behavioral Health

Montare Behavioral Health is available to assist clients in Los Angeles, California who require dual diagnosis treatment. Battling mental health disorders has a unique set of challenges; this is because people are more likely to commit suicide when they have underlying medical disorders related to mental health trauma.
An integrated intervention, in which a patient receives therapy for both their mental health issue and any underlying causes that may be influencing the disorder’s development, is the best type of mental health treatment for co-occurring mental illnesses. The success of dual diagnosis treatment over the long term depends on appropriate examinations, treatment plans, and determination of the presence or absence of a mental health illness.

With mental health services at Montare Behavioral Health they can assist your adolescent child in regaining control over their life.

Stillwater Treatment

A thorough dual diagnosis treatment program, such as the one offered by Santa Barbara drug rehab, offers a specially created program that combines conventional, research-backed treatments with complementary therapies to deliver the most thorough care. Your adolescent will engage in a variety of therapy settings during sessions, such as family, group, and individual counseling. In order to support your teenage child in achieving healing most efficiently and healthfully possible, the Stillwater dual diagnosis program also offers access to 12-step programs, nutritional services, fitness centers, spacious rooms, and a calm, tranquil environment. The treatment team will collaborate with you to create an aftercare program when your stay-in or home-like setting comes to an end. This program will include essential components of ongoing recovery, such as scheduled support group meetings, follow-up medical appointments, ongoing therapy, and other support services to help you through the initial and most difficult days of recovery.

There is never a better time than now to choose to begin your recovery path, and the staff at Stillwater is prepared to offer assistance, understanding, and direction at every turn.

Conclusion

The idea of dual diagnosis treatment was uncommon for a long time in the mental health and medical fields. Up until recently, there was the regrettable but pervasive notion that a person with two diagnoses needed to attend to each issue independently through different treatment plans. Therefore, treatment for a co-occurring drug use problem was never provided to persons who struggled with one of the many mental health issues, and vice versa. The persistent myths around this line of thinking demonstrate the intimate connection between addiction and mental health. Many of their symptoms are similar, and often, attempting to treat one causes the other’s symptoms to intensify or manifest in new ways.

In recent times, there has been improvement and a shift in the perspective of the management of dual diagnostic problems. These days, addiction and mental health are recognized as complementary issues by both the medical and mental health fields.

Parents who ask the question, where can I send my out-of-control teenager can choose any of the aforementioned dual diagnosis adolescent centers for trauma listed above. Don’t let your teen’s drug use and co-occurring disorders keep them from leading happy lives. Get your teen treated for two diagnoses right away.
