I’m thrilled to review Red Comet Press’ Fall release of picture books! You might have seen my social media posts about The Happiest Lion Cub, a picture book originating from Ukraine. It was a no-brainer for me to pre-order a copy as an easy way to support Ukrainian creators and feel like I can do something, even as small as a book purchase, to support Ukraine as they fight Russian invaders.
But each of these books has a place in my heart. “Heart” would be the one word to describe the root of each of these special books. We are giving away The Happiest Lion Cub and If You Believe In Me. To enter, please fill out the Rafflecopter at the bottom.
Red Comet Press Fall 2022 Books
My Hands by Néjib
What can we do with our hands? My Hands combines both humor and wonder in appreciating all that our hands can do. The simple, striking graphics portray how versatile our hands are in expressing emotion, catching a ball, and even picking our noses! [picture book, ages 3 and up]
Little Hearts by Charles Ghigna
Can you spot all the hearts that appear in nature? Four animal friends take a sweet and gentle journey to discover the beauty of their surroundings and find hearts hiding everywhere. [picture book, ages 3 and up]
If You Believe in Me by Rosemary Wells
This book gives me Little Bear vibes and that’s a good thing! It’s a story about dreaming big dreams, made possible by the encouragement of loved ones. They say that a child’s inner voice is what they hear from adults, especially parents. I think that is especially true of ambitious dreams! [picture book, ages 3 and up]
The Happiest Lion Cub by Olesandr Shatokhin
A lion cub would rather be a musician than the king of all the animals. Will his father see eye-to-eye with him? Whimsical illustrations match this upbeat story of being true to oneself. [picture book, ages 3 and up]
Albie on His Way by Jutta Bauer
Albie has an important message to deliver for the king to another king in a neighboring kingdom. Along the way, he loses time as he stops to help others. There is a parallel story of the king as he waits impatiently, but I honestly found it quite confusing. At its heart, this is a story of kindness; something that the king learns from Albie to appreciate. [picture book, ages 4 and up]

Angus Yuen-Killick
This is the realization of a long-held dream. The past year has forced us to reevaluate our priorities and reflect on our future. Launching a new publishing company seemed at once a crazy proposition, but also the absolute right thing to do.
At Red Comet Press, we will focus on the craft of publishing and curating a list of hand-picked titles. We will shepherd them through the publishing process, from creator to reader, with care and attention to detail. When we acquired these first books, it was a sign. They are inventive, surprising, touching, and multi-layered—and they remind me, upon every reading, of the passion and creativity that drew me to this business in the first place.
