Please join us for Multicultural Children’s Book Club. We host a FREE multicultural children’s picture book virtual book club on the first Thursday of every month from 7 pm to 8 pm EST.
August’s event will be held on August 4th and we are celebrating Women’s Equality Day (Aug 26 )and National Aviation Day (Aug 19) using The Fearless Flights of Hazel Ying Lee by Julie Leung, illustrated by Julie Kwon.
The Fearless Flights of Hazel Ying Lee by Julie Leung, illustrated by Julie Kwon
In 1932, less than one percent of pilots were women and a fraction of that were women of color! But this didn’t deter Hazel Ying Lee from becoming the first Chinese American woman to fly for the U.S. military! She became a WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilot) which was dangerous work. [picture book biography, ages 4 and up]
As always, we will have:
- Book talk
- Creative Project
- Snack ideas related to our theme
- Surprise guest (popping in at 7:40 pm): author Julie Leung!
- Giveaway (Featured Book and snacks on international flights)
I am giving away a “Multicultural Children’s Book Club in a Box” which includes The Fearless Flights of Hazel Ying Lee plus some fun snacks that international airlines serve on their flights.
We hope you can join us in August on the 4th!
