My middle daughter loves musicals. When we visited London, we found that everything there was much more expensive compared to prices in the United States except for one thing … Broadway shows! The West End, the “first” Broadway, is also a theater lover’s nirvana.
What is nice about the West End is that the shows are roughly 60% less expensive for comparable tickets. We discovered this while pricing tickets for Hamilton in London versus New York City! Also, the shows are at the end of a city block in the West End of London rather than all lined up on one street like Broadway. This means that subways do not get overcrowded after the show ends.
We saw Hamilton which was spectacular and then we decided to take a chance and see a new show that we knew nothing about. It was playing near our hotel and just gave off good energy that it would be upbeat and fun. And boy did it deliver!
& Juliet has an amazing soundtrack because it was written by Swedish pop songwriter Max Martin. His songs include I Want It That Way, … Baby One More Time, Love Me Like You Do, Whataya Want From Me, Teenage Dream, Can’t Stop the Feeling, Oops! … I Did It Again, and I Kissed a Girl. It is described as a “jukebox musical” and it’s a 90s hit music extravaganza!
There are other great girl empowerment messages in this woke version of Romeo and Juliet under the premise of what would happen if neither of them died? And, add to it an LGBTQ twist. William Shakespeare and his wife Anne Hathaway are our hosts for two hours of entertainment fun! We loved it and highly recommend it!

Fun! We’ll probably be taking students to a musical in London while we are in Oxford. Would you recommend this show for them? Or something else?
