My 14-year-old son’s Exotic Fruit Challenge: Mamey Sapote. We were able to get our kids and their friends to try exotic fruit that we bought at a Farmer’s Market in Old Koloa Town on Kauai, Hawaii.
Mamey sapote is a large and highly ornamental evergreen tree that can reach a height of 15 to 45 meters (49 to 148 ft) at maturity. It is mainly propagated by grafting, which ensures the new plant has the same characteristics as the parent, especially its fruit, as it does not grow true to seed. from Wikipedia
Reminds us of: papaya meets sweet potato.
Texture: soft like ripe papaya.
Flavor: tastes sweeter than a baked sweet potato.
Verdict: an acquired taste unless you love sweet potatoes.
