Sumo Joe is in Jambo Books’ January Box!

Jambo Books is an award-winning children’s books subscription box that delivers 2-3 books each month featuring a child of color as the star.

I am so thrilled that Sumo Joe is included in their January 2022 box which is geared for children ages 3-4. Yamile Saied Mendez’s picture book, Where Are You From?, is also included. We were both in the picture book group New in Nineteen so I’m so happy to be paired with her wonderful book!

I can really relate to the theme of Yamile’s book as an Asian American, even though she tells it from the perspective of a Latinx American.

Jambo Books has subscription boxes for children of all ages! Included in each box are two gorgeous high-quality books each month starring a child of color in a key role.

The stories show that people of color can star in stories that aren’t historical or cultural in focus. The typical story arc is more “Maria adopts a dog” or “Evan and friends get pizza after baseball.”

The books come in gorgeous packaging and are addressed to your child, who will be excited to receive a package in the mail.
