When you are a mom, there is no shortage of things to do. Your life is very busy. It can be hard to think about things outside of your home, let alone in the world at large. Still, you want to be conscientious. You want to do the right thing.
Whatever your life looks like, it is necessary for all of us to do our part to mitigate the impact we have on the environment to secure the posterity of our children and their children after them. No one person can solve the problem of environmental degradation and the warming climate, but we can all do our part. Below are five products that will make your home more environmentally friendly.
Smart Washers
One great product every mother should think about investing in is a smart washer. Smart washers are made for both dishes and clothing. Not only will smart washers help you save water, but they will also use less electricity. These washers are designed to lower the impact that you have on the environment in the way of water and power. How do you know which smart washers will do what they say they’re going to? Look for the Energy Star logo, which means that they are energy efficient. Smart washers help you decrease your negative impact on the planet in more than one way.
Laundry Detergent
While you’re at it, smart washers aren’t the only way to make your laundry more efficient. With eco-friendly laundry detergent, you have a product that isn’t full of chemicals that are harmful to the environment. Your average detergent has many different ingredients that, when drained, go to the ocean. Whatever your stance on environmentalism, we can all agree this isn’t a great thing. While you’re buying a smart washer, also think about going for some environmentally friendly detergent.
Body Wash
There are many harmful chemicals in hygiene and cosmetic products. Body Wash is like detergent in the way that it can include a lot of harmful chemicals. While they aren’t good for the environment, many of them aren’t good for your skin either. Instead of these artificial standards, go for the body wash and soap options that are sustainable and better for your skin. There are plenty of alternatives out there to choose from. When you are concerned about the environment, it may be time to think about the products that you are using in your bathroom. Body wash is just one of them.
Handled Products
All around the house you have products with handles. Most of these are made with plastic. This is no good. Plastic can’t be broken down very easily and will remain on the Earth long after the people alive today are gone. Instead of buying wasteful and unsustainable plastic, go for products that are made from bamboo or another eco-friendly material. Everything from your comb to your loofah to your kitchen utensils can be made from bamboo. Keep in mind that bamboo is strong and durable! You will be overjoyed with how long they last.
Books For Your Children
Finally, as your children get older, they will be the ones making choices around the house when it’s not you. They will be leaving the lights on. They will be using plastic utensils over silverware. They will run the thermostat and wastewater. Therefore, it is crucial to teach your children about the environment and the impact humanity has on it. One great way to do this is through children’s books about the environment. It is a great way to communicate a message in a way that is accessible to children. They will enjoy themselves while learning something valuable.
Being a mom isn’t easy. In some ways, it has been facilitated by the modern world, but everything is more complicated now. You weren’t expected to care about the environment 30 years ago. Things have changed.
Your household has an impact on the planet whether you like it or not. To mitigate your effect, it’s necessary to buy products that will enable you to live more sustainably and choose the right thing over what is cheaper or what feels good. So, next time you are buying something, think about the impact it has on the environment. You will be doing the right thing for your family and the world at large!
