Deciding to expand your family takes a lot of planning and hardly any luck for others. If you’re ready to go for baby number one or number four, some things can make the conceiving part less stressful. While we all have the best-laid plans, like our dream nursery, how we’ll manage our money as parents for college and family vacations – sometimes getting to the pregnancy piece takes more work. Let’s look at some of the products you’ll want while trying to conceive of making the journey a little less stressful and possibly more joyous.
Books Abounding
They say knowledge is power, and what better place to educate yourself on what to expect than a bunch of books? There are many books about pregnancy, but just as many about trying to conceive and what you can expect along your journey if you’re struggling with infertility. Maybe you’re pursuing IVF, and perhaps you’re going solo and using a donor. No matter your situation, it’s best to educate yourself through first-hand experiences of people in your shoes and doctors or other experts on the issue. So, head to your local bookstore or download them onto your kindle, but arm yourself for the journey ahead.
Creativity
Let’s face it, when you’re trying to conceive with your partner, you’re going to be getting physical, a lot. In times like this, something that is typically considered exhilarating and happens spontaneously can begin to feel routine and, dare we say – boring. Get creative when it comes to spending this intimate time with your partner. Whether that’s through role-play, fun clothing, staying in a hotel – try and keep things fun and don’t lose the romantic connection you two share.
There’s An App For That
While there are plenty of apps available to help you track where you’re at in your cycle, there are apps that can go into more depth than a traditional cycle app. It’s worth paying the fee to be really in touch with your body. You’re going to be monitoring lots of different things from your mood, weight, temperature, sex drive, and beyond. So, download one or two and stick with your favorite. If you’re struggling while trying to conceive, invest in an app that has a community message board where you can connect with other women in your position. Even if you don’t feel comfortable sharing on the platform, it can be comforting to read others’ experiences, failures, and, more importantly, successes.
Ovulation Predictor Kits to Track Your Fertile Window
While some women are incredibly in touch with their bodies and can tell not only when they’re ovulating but which ovary the egg was released from, not all of us are as wise if we’re in the latter and more common group of women. Purchasing a handy ovulation predictor kit that is straightforward to use and lets you know when your body is in peak fertility AKA when to get it on. These tests typically detect a specific hormone in your urine and give you results quickly, when used properly the results are up to 99% accurate.
Self-Care Products
Trying to conceive can leave you feeling defeated for some months, and it’s a good idea to have all the creature comforts you desire around to help you stay motivated and at peace. Products like cooling eye masks, calming bath salts, and at-home massagers are a great place to start. It’s also a good idea to keep a good stock of the little things that ease stress for you, like candles, incense, or oil diffusers that release calming or uplifting scents. Whatever you need to take care of yourself, keep it on hand.
Supplement Supply
It’s a good idea to supplement your healthy lifestyle choices even when you’re not trying to get pregnant. However, when you are TTC, it’s paramount. Essential supplements to take during this time are Folic Acid, Zinc, Coq10, Vitamins E & D, and Fish Oils. All of these can be found in a healthy, whole foods diet, but adding extra supplements to healthy meals can ensure you are getting your levels of these critical vitamins where they need to be.
Trying to conceive is an exciting time in anyone’s life, but if you can be as comfortable and positive as possible, it makes the experience even better. Make sure you treat yourself to the products mentioned above, or at least some of them to help you along the way. And, congratulations!
