With the holidays upon us, it’s time to make a master plan for self-care. With a specific plan for self-care, you can enjoy the holidays while also feeling energetic, healthy, and focused on your well-being.
Make a Date With Yourself
Do you keep a calendar? Of course you do! Practicing self-care can be a matter of simply penciling yourself in on the calendar. This means different things, but it can include making daily, weekly, and even monthly self-care dates.
A daily date could be getting up to catch the sunrise. Or it can include making an afternoon tea date (either by yourself or with a friend you’ve been meaning to catch up with) to savor a cup of your favorite soothing herbal tisane.
A weekly date may be going for a walk in nature, skating at a local park, or taking a luxurious bubble bath. It might mean making time to treat yourself to one of your favorite skincare regimens such as moisturizing or using a skincare mask.
Monthly dates may be more expansive with treats such as getting out of town to go to a lake, trail, or park. It could be scheduling time for taking a sauna, getting a massage, or curling up with a good book.
Whatever you decide to put on your calendar, keep your self-care date. Make sure that these times are non-negotiable. That means no excuses, delays, or postponements. Your date for self-care is a top priority.
Connect With Nature
While the holidays can be a time for being indoors, you can take care of yourself by indulging in nature. Get into the habit of looking to nature for inspiration. Look around your home and find ways to enhance the presence of nature in your living space.
For example, to bring the element of water to your home, you might add a natural fountain to your bathroom or yoga room. To enhance the earth element of your home, you could feature baskets, wreaths, and stone tiles. Think about each room in your home and bring the outside into your inner sanctuary.
It’s easy to get inspired and innovate with natural designs. You’ll often find unique ideas when you tune in to your local environment. It may be that seeing the branches of a tree, a leaf, or the bright berries in the snow spark your imagination.
Tap, into your inner artist and bring in the colors of nature. Go outside and find branches, leaves, and sprigs of plants to spruce up your living room, bedroom, and bath. Create a wreath for the front door, emulating the rich hues of red, gold, and forest green. Use local plants and warm colors to create a feeling of serenity in your home.
The holidays are a time to celebrate nature. Why not take a moment to look around for inspiration? Just take a walk around your neighborhood and look for ideas to make your home more earth-friendly.
Create an In-Home Spa
If you’re dreaming of relaxing in a spa, this is an ideal time to create one for yourself. Think of a top-notch hotel or spa that promises the soothing and relaxing time you’ve been craving. What kind of treatments would you go for first? Most likely, your wishlist will include many treatments that you can do in the comfort of your own home.
Self-care is all about making time to connect, soothe, and comfort yourself. One of the best ways to do this is with skincare. Skin care masks and peels could easily be called the rescue squad of skincare. These high-powered solutions are super-concentrated with nourishment.
Masks and peels can help to purify, hydrate, and revive your skin. You’ll want to be sure to pick the mask that is suited to your face type. If you have dry skin, oily skin, or something in between, there is a mask out there just for you.
In winter, you’ll want to increase the intensity of your moisturizers, as well. The brutal cold, wind, and dryness directly affect the skin. What can you do to protect your skin? When you’re outside, apply sunscreen>. When you’re having an in-home spa, use rich moisturizers.
You may also enjoy creating a spa-like atmosphere by adding candles, soft music, and a delicious healthy beverage to your treatment. Experiment with using cucumber slices to freshen the eyelids. Put cucumber, raspberries, or strawberries into your spring water.
Allow plenty of time for your in-home spa treatments. Make sure your space is where you won’t be interrupted or disturbed. Turn off the phone, disconnect from technology, and reward yourself with a comforting treatment. Making time for self-care is always a wise choice for enjoying a healthy holiday season.
