Our Hamilton College Visit. My impressions:
- Their focus is on “Know Thyself”
- Hamilton has an open curriculum with a few writing class requirements and 2 quantitative classes
- Students must take 3 seminars at career services before they can contact Hamilton alumni
- There are great travel internship programs with classes and experience in 3 or 4 locations including internationally. Hamilton-specific study abroad locations include Adirondacks, London, and 2 others.
- The main dining hall at Hamilton is often compared to Hogwarts.
- Hamilton’s study abroad opportunities includes language immersion programs in Madrid, Beijing, and Paris. You only need the first-year language to qualify.
- Kirkland college for women merged with Hamilton which is why there are 2 sides to campus: the light side and the dark side.
- The students seem really friendly and supportive. The vibe is a non-competitive atmosphere. Students seem to be internally driven.
- The campus is really pretty with great architecture and features like a waterfall in the study area, and atriums.
- Their Admissions presentation one of the most thoughtful with food offered including popcorn cart, baked goods, and fresh fruit. They gave out coupons to get free food on campus at three locations. We split up with a ratio of 3 families into one student guide. Our guide was great. He was really personable and friendly.
- There seems to be an emphasis on what happens after graduation with 92% or so employed in some way like internship/job or graduate school one year after graduation.
- This school had a great vibe.
- No merit-based scholarships.
- 1,868 undergraduate students, about 467 per class
