What criteria do you use when selecting children’s books for your school library, classroom, or home? Share some of your favorites that help children see themselves and understand others.

How have children helped you: identify book characters’ stereotypes, challenge how story conflicts are resolved, or question a story’s authenticity?
Question 3
Children are great authors and artists. After reading together, how have children rewritten or re-illustrated a story to show a different perspective or change the plot?
Question 4
Books can challenge stereotypes about who is strong. Books can help readers feel optimistic. What books do you use to address social justice issues with children?
Question 5
Art makes thinking visible. How have children’s drawings honored characters who were ignored, brought hidden heroes to life, or visually communicated a new version of a story? Share or describe children’s drawings.
