When your home is cohesive, everything just seems to flow. From the kitchen, the laundry, to the bathrooms. However, one thing that can throw a stick in the works is the kids’ rooms. Perhaps they are messy, disorganized, or simply boring.
There are plenty of things you can do in order to make your kids’ rooms special. What kid doesn’t love a bedroom makeover? The best way to transform your child’s room is to allow them to be part of the process. Let them choose small items, or even the paint color (within reason) so that they know they have had some input.
Check out these 5 awesome ways you can transform your child’s room.
1. Create storage solutions
There is no way to hide the fact that kid’s rooms naturally hold clutter. After all, they have toys, clothes, books, pencils, and random oddities that have been collected outside, of course. That is why it is so important to create storage solutions that they actually want to use.
You can keep them chic to fit into the theme of your house but don’t forget to make them fun. Perhaps a cool trunk or bin at the end of the bed, or a cube storage shelf with some nice décor would do the trick.
2. Add another bed
Kids love sleepovers, however, they may not always want to share their bed. Adding another bed to their room will likely make them want to keep their room cleaner as they will want a clean room for their friends. If a bed won’t fit, another great option is a futon.
Futons are a sofa that transforms into a bed. So, not only does it add a cool sofa, but there is an extra bed for sleepovers.
3. Focus on play
Kids spend a large majority of their life playing, it would be a crime to take that away from them. When designing their new space, let them pick out a few toys and try to create a space where their creativity can let loose. A small ball pit, an indoor swing, a fun little house, and even a unique bed frame are good options.
4. Add a little magic
Think Harry Potter for this one. Kids are more in tune with the magic of the world than adults are, so add a bit of that into their room. You can do this by hanging some fairy lights or glow-in-the-dark stars on the ceiling. Adding a touch of something enchanting is definitely recommended.
5. Add patterns and texture
Identifying patterns and different textures is an incredibly important part of a child’s development. Not only is it very pleasing to the eye to add patterns and texture into a room, but it also helps with your child’s development.
I loved painting a mural on my daughter’s walls. My husband doesn’t consider himself artistic, but he added the bridge, helicopters, and other flying machines to the scenery. We also used stickers of her favorite children’s book characters. An easy way to make her room interactive was to use velcro tape to stick tiny stuffed animals to the wall. I used teeny Beanie Babies.
Every child deserves a beautiful haven and space they love to spend time in. It can simply be adding some fun and inexpensive elements to their rooms like a fresh coat of paint, glow-in-the-dark stars on their ceiling, a mobile, or fairy lights. Have fun and your child will too!
