Author Q&A: Whose story surprised you the most?
Tora: I was most surprised by Angela Mao (Lady Whirlwind). She’s one of the most unsung heroes of our time. America has a love for Kung Fu Masters on the silver screen and her amazing story needed to be told.
Mars: I learned so much about the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League! I wasn’t super familiar with the history of baseball and to know that not only were women a significant part of the story, they were AMAZING at playing is so exciting.
Paige: I had seen Edmonia Lewis’ amazing sculptures before, but I had no idea about the adversity she overcame or the barriers she broke as a woman who was both black and Ojibwe.
