My 13-year-old son’s Exotic Fruit Challenge: Kumquat
My son and I started down this exotic fruit challenge a few years ago, and it’s been a fun adventure to try new things. This challenge is the kumquat that you eat in its entirety. Kumquats are very small, about the size of large olives. I have a photo of citrus fruit for reference below. Kumquats are the smallest orange ones on the bottom row.
Reminds us of: sweet orange.
Texture: like an orange with thin skin because you eat the skin.
Flavor: like a slightly bitter Meyer Lemon but sweeter like an orange.
Verdict: very good!

Lots of people here in New Orleans have kumquats in their yards!
