Fashion designer Prabal Gurung is known for his elegant designs that graced former first lady Michelle Obama, and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. Stars who wore Prabal Gurung on the red carpet include Demi Moore, Rachel Weisz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Anne Hathaway. Helen Mirrin, Diane Kruger, Olivia Munn, and Oprah Winfrey.
But to me, Prabal Gurung is an Asian Pacific American hero for his work supporting diversity in the fashion industry. He was one the first to cast models of color and plus-size models. Here’s a clip about his vision.
Here’s his gorgeous flower-inspired Spring 2020 collection!
Did you know that Prabal Gurung was raised by a single mother?! All this and more in Asian Pacific American Heroes. It’s available on the Scholastic Website and through Scholastic Bookclubs flyers.
