Charlotte Taylor of Charlotte’s Library and I are co-planning KidLitCon next year. It will be held on March 22-23, 2-19 at Hotel Providence, in Providence, Rhode Island where Charlotte lives. I live one hour from Providence but have spent quite a bit of time there since my oldest went to RISD Pre-College twice!
What is KidLitCon all about? It started eleven years ago when a group of children’s book bloggers held a potluck dinner on the west coast so that they could meet in real life. Now, it’s a conference that rotates throughout the United States based on VOLUNTEERS who offer to organize it!
Who should attend? You should! No really! You are cordially invited! And by you, I mean my readers, my fellow children’s book lovers and reviewers. Children’s and YA authors and illustrators too! Librarians! YES! Teachers!!! We really want to increase our teacher participation! Parents, guardians, those who are pre-published! We have something for everyone in our panels! Please save the date! You won’t want to miss the opportunity to meet all these awesome people!
Our Keynoter Speakers are LeUyen Pham and Varian Johnson!
We are currently announcing our panels:
- Big Issues in YA
- Don’t Forget the Chapter Books
- What We Learned as Debut Authors
- STEM Stories
- The State of the Book Shelf of Picture Books for LGBTQ Families
- Lunch Session: All About Multicultural Children’s Book Day
- Lunch Session: Unlocking the Secrets of SEO
- To Market, To Market: Getting Your Picture Book Into Readers’ Hands
We are still announcing the rest of our panels, one a day, five days a week so stay tuned!
KidLitCon 2019 will be held in Providence, Rhode Island
on March 22-23, 2019
at Hotel Providence in downtown Providence.
Our hashtag is: #KidLitCon2019
The theme is Reaching Readers.
KidLitCon is an annual gathering of people who care about, and/or blog (or Tweet or Instagram or Facebook or make Videos) about children’s and young adult books, including librarians, teachers, authors & illustrators (both published and aspiring), parents, guardians, and book reviewers. KidLitCon is a small, friendly conference, perfect for (often) introverted book lovers.
Attending is a great way to turn virtual blogging friends into real world friends. Past conference topics have ranged from conquering the blogging blahs to learning to podcast to ways to support diverse books.
The theme for KidLitCon 2019 is REACHING READERS. Our panel discussion topics will range from SEO for Dummies to #OwnVoices/#WritingWhileWhite to Using Multicultural Books in the Classroom to Graphic Novels as the Gateway to Literacy. We hope to engage all our audiences: children’s book reviewers on blogs/Instagram/YouTube, librarians, teachers, parents/guardians, authors, and illustrators. We will also have book signings on both days that do not require entrance fees to KidLitCon so that kids can meet their favorite authors and illustrators.
We hope that you’ll join us in March 22-23, 2019 in beautiful Providence, Rhode Island at Hotel Providence! Hotel Providence is a newly renovated, boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Providence.
p.s. Charlotte has this really great list of places to visit: A Bibliophile’s Guide to Providence. Why not make a vacation of it?
p.p.s. Here’s a tour of a standard room at Hotel Providence:
p.p.p.s. Here’s the beautiful and newly renovated hotel. We have the hotel nearly to ourselves!

One of these years I’m going to make it to this conference! Just not 2019 🙁
Hi Maryanne,
It should swing closer to you next year. It’s supposed to rotate by geography and it’s been on the East coast for two years in a row.
This conference sounds wonderful, Mia!! Congrats!! I’d love to be able to attend it when I’m back in New England–enjoy!!
Are you moving back to Boston area Maria?!!!! I hope so! KidLitCon rotates geographically so it should end up in DC area in a few years.
