Understanding the types of articles that can be written
A school magazine or newspaper mostly has two types of articles that one can write – a feature article or a news article. Other writing pieces can include editorials, event reviews or opinion pieces. To add to such pieces, it is important to be aware of all the happenings at school and talk to teachers and students about what is happening and about future events. Getting to know parents’ opinion about various events at school is also another starting ground to get the right material for the school’s newspaper.
Knowing how to write a good structure to an article
When it comes to writing, there are some key things that you must include in your newspaper article, so it gets the readership it deserves.
A few things that can help are as follows:
A catchy headline: Make your headline short but attention-grabbing that tells the readers about the event and entice them to read the full article.
A byline: This is where your name can shine in the newspaper. A byline is an area that tells the reader who wrote the article.
Introductory paragraph: This is as important as the headline is. This part should contain the what, why, where, when and who of the article. Do not make the first paragraph more than five sentences.
Explanation: Then comes the place where you explain the article in detail. This is your area to add all the details, so the reader feels fully equipped with the information and knows everything they want to know about that event or news in the school.
Additional information: Sometimes space in the newspaper does not allow for lengthy descriptions. So as the writer, you can provide your details or email address so a reader can contact you should they require more details about that article. By doing so, you know you can establish yourself as a bright writer kid at school and locals can start to know you as a budding writer.
Taking this challenge as an assignment
