My daughters have launched their own clothing company, upcycling vintage and modern pieces, and dying them using a Japanese shibori technique.
Indigo Clothing Co. Products:
+ 100% natural indigo dye
+ a modern take on Japanese shibori dyeing techniques
+ upcycled vintage & modern pieces
+ environmentally and socially conscious
They started the company at the end of this past summer, and they spend most of their free time “grinding” on their business. Their eCommerce website launched recently, and I found the models’ bios especially entertaining.
This company is teaching them an amazing array of life lessons from communication and negotiation skills to accounting and web design. My oldest who will be attending art college is the creative force while my middle daughter focuses on marketing, accounting, and operations.
When I came across this video that shows the link between Japanese samurai and real indigo, I felt a cosmic connection. Their Japanese side of the family has samurai roots.
Their website is here if you want to check it out.
My Indigo World: A True Story of the Color Blue by Rosa Chang
The indigo plant is the source of the deep blue used in clothing and textiles around the world from Japan to West Africa to Guatemala and beyond. Rosa, a Korean girl, plants indigo seeds and turns the plant into blue dye. Textile art featuring indigo-dyed fabric gives the book a richly textured experience. Rosa Chang does not shy away from how Indigo, because it was a valuable plant, also resulted in exploitation and suffering. This richly layered story combines the life cycle of the indigo plant with its impact as a commercial crop for textiles as well as an art form. The color blue has an evocative backstory. p.s. Here is a video of their Maine photoshoot. It was a family vacation for some of us and a “working vacation” for the Indigo gang.
p.p.s. Here’s a photoshoot.
p.s. indigo clothing co. made the front page of our local newspaper, the Newton Tab.

Wonderful idea and it’s great that your daughters are entrepreneurs at young age. Just a suggestion – add 2-3 models who are full-figured in order to appeal to more people. Especially the dresses are great for full-figured women because they are light and covers the shape of the body. Best wishes in one day appearing on The Shark TV Show.
Yes! Good point Giora! They are planning on adding more body types.
You are such a great mom to encourage your daughters to own their own company and what it takes to be an entrepreneur. I love that they are reaching to the roots and using a Japanese technique which will be a plus for them! You must be so proud!
My husband and I are so proud of our daughters … but our house is slowing turning blue. There are spots of dye everywhere!
Awesome! I wish them great success!
Thanks so much Xyra!
