The Paul Revere House in the North End Italian section of Boston is a wonderful place to visit. It’s the oldest house in Downtown Boston and his colonial home during the time of the American Revolution.
Be sure to check out the Italian bakeries, cafes and restaurants in the area as well! I recommend:
Modern Pastry (if Mike’s Pastries is too busy)
Caffe Vittoria for a pleasant rest stop
Regina Pizzeria for a slice or two
Terramia for a lovely dinner
You can get a free eBook on iTunes that teaches American history called One April in Boston by Ben L. Edwards, illustrated by Cortney Skinner. It covers Colonial Boston, Paul Revere’s Ride and the Battles of Lexington and Concord.
A donation will be made annually to the Paul Revere House based on the number of times this free book is downloaded.
BEST #OWNVOICES CHILDREN’S BOOKS: My Favorite Diversity Books for Kids Ages 1-12 is a book that I created to highlight books written by authors who share the same marginalized identity as the characters in their books.
Neat! I didn’t know you could visit this place. Maybe next time we’re in Boston (not sure when that will happen).
I’ll have to check out the book in the meantime.
Hi MaryAnne,
It always looked closed so I didn’t realize either. And, it is closed a lot too so check the hours. It was much larger of an exhibit than I realized but you can still do it with kids in under an hour so it’s nice to add to a North End trek for gelato, pizza or any meal, and Mike’s Pastries. There are new salumi shops there too
I also have to recommend L’Osteria nearby in the North End. Excellent Italian food. Great atmosphere and not too stuffy for kids.
Thanks! I have to try that one Dee!
What a cool place. I would love to visit it.
It’s nice little museum!
We are talking about Boston for our next family trip and this museum is high on our list! We love teaching the kids through travel. Seeing things in person really helps the whole place come alive – history and culture. Kids are so curious and love visits to historical places.
You will love the Freedom Trail! https://www.pragmaticmom.com/2013/06/boston-freedom-trail/ I have a book list for that too. https://www.pragmaticmom.com/2016/09/boston-freedom-trail-book-list/
There is also an African American Freedom Trail that is not marked in brick and is not as long but covers many important buildings and people. You might like that as well. I hope you can make it to Boston!
You might like the Freedom Trail and the African American Freedom Trail! Hope you make it to Boston soon!
