I’ve teamed up with Star Market to share how my family deals with cold and flu season.
Have cold and flu season hit your family yet? We’ve already had our first round of colds, coinciding with our first week back to school. It’s not the best time to miss school!
I find that tinctures — old fashioned teas steeped with herbs and fruit — help my kids beat a cold. The teas help to flush their system with fluids and the warmth soothes their dry sore throats. They also feel cared for. I’m sharing our Honey Lemon Ginger Tea recipe — it as easy to make as lemonade.
Honey Lemon Ginger Tea
1 cup water
1-inch piece ginger root (or more, to taste), peeled and sliced thickly
the juice of 1/2 lemon
1 teaspoon honey
Put all the ingredients into a sauce pan and heat. Steep for five minutes. Strain out the ginger. Serve in a mug.
If your kids are like mine, they like variety. I also make them Honey-Ginger Green Tea for a change of flavor. It’s nice because it uses the same ingredients — honey and ginger — so it’s easy to brew. You just need green tea.
Honey-Ginger Green Tea
2 cups water
2 green tea bags
One thin slices of fresh ginger (or to taste)
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 teaspoon honey (or to taste)
Boil the water, then pour into teapot with the green tea bags, the lemon juice, honey and ginger. Steep for five minutes, then serve.
I pair these teas with the effective and affordable line of Signature Care™ products from Star Market . In the Boston area, Signature Care products are available exclusively at Star Market. You can also find them at the Albertsons Companies family of stories, including Albertsons, Safeway, ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Vons, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Shaw’s, United Supermarkets, Market Street, Albertsons Market and Carrs/Safeway. Hopefully one of these is nearby.
The combination of teas with cough and cold medicine helps to get my kids on the mend quickly. My kids like cough drops for their throats so I buy Star Market‘s Signature Care Cough Drops Honey Lemon. They also can’t sleep at night if they are stuffed up, so I rely on Star Market‘s Signature Care Nasal Decongestant Tablets.
Star Market is nearby with convenient hours and has quality products so I don’t need to make multiple stops to get what I need when my kids are sick. Did you know that Signature Care products provide the same quality and relief that national name brands do, but at a better value? They have the same active ingredients and use the same manufacturing standards mandated by the FDA as national brands. They also come with a 100% satisfaction guaranteed or your money back promise!
Star Market is a great neighborhood grocery store that combines convenience, value and quality. Star Market helps with getting kids back on the mend as fast as possible. That’s what makes Star Market shine for me.

BEST #OWNVOICES CHILDREN’S BOOKS: My Favorite Diversity Books for Kids Ages 1-12 is a book that I created to highlight books written by authors who share the same marginalized identity as the characters in their books.
No star markets in my area. However, I will have to look into this tea thing. My husband is currently miserable; these may help him.
