I love picture books that teach and these 6 books do not disappoint. From compound words to alliteration to literacy, these books are a fun way to get kids exposed to word concepts.
I’m giving away four of these picture books to four winners. Please fill out the Rafflecopter at the bottom to enter.
Picture Books That Teach Word Concepts
Halloween ABC by Jannie Ho
I met Jannie Ho in my Community Education Children’s Writing class and she’s the nicest person ever! Her Halloween alphabet book is a not-scary way to learn the letters! [board book, ages 1 and up]
Betty’s Burgled Bakery: An Alliteration Adventure by Travis Nichols
My counters and cupboards were completely cleared of carrot cake, cornbread, and crackers.
This is a considerably crummy crime.
This is a fun adventure that introduces kids to alliteration. The story is told sequentially through alliteration in each alphabet letter. Gumshoe Zoo is the detective of this animal caper. The format of a graphic novel makes this especially engaging to read. [picture book, ages 4 and up]
Did You Take the B from my _ook?: Books That Drive Kids Crazy! by Beck & Matt Stanton
This has illustrations but it reminds me of The Book With No Pictures by B. J. Novak. Both have clever and funny text and challenge the reader to interact with the story! This is a really fun way to introduce young readers to the letter B! [picture book, ages 2 and up]
Double Take!: A New Look at Opposites by Susan Hood, illustrated by Jay Fleck
ASLEEP?
AWAKE!
Opposites are a piece of cake!
With rhyming text and soothing illustrations, the concept of opposites is introduced in a charming and memorable way. [picture book, ages 4 and up]
Word Play by Ivan Brunetti
Compound words are introduced in this book that makes me think of Richard Scarry Meets a Graphic Novel. I also love how the characters represent a diverse family. [graphic novel, ages 4 and up]
ABC See, Hear, Do: Learn to Read 55 Words by Stefanie Hohl
This alphabet book teaches kids letter sounds and simple rhymes putting them on the path to reading independently. It combines different reading methods such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. [picture book, ages 4 and up]
