My son has been trying out new STEM toys recently. This is the second kit Technology Will Save Us sent us: DIY Electro Dough Kit. He also tried out the DIY Gamer Kit , ARCKit, Snap Circuits, and Sphero.
Out of all these kits, I think my son liked the DIY Electro Dough Kit the most. It’s also the least expensive out of the different things he tried, at $30 for the kit.
The first step is the dough. There’s a recipe to make your own Playdoh but you can also just buy two very small containers as this is not included in the kit.
Why does Playdoh conduct electricity?
Making your own dough might give you the answer!
Play-Doh is loaded with salt. Solutions of salt in water, especially concentrated solutions, are very good conductors of electricity.
Next, follow the directions to set up experiments with the LED lights, the siren, and the alligator clips. Once you get the hang of it, you can test your own theories.
What’s nice with this kit is that it is very versatile. With the electronics provided, you can set up a lot of different scenarios and try to predict what is happening.
