Percy Jackson is a good kid, but he can’t seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at boarding school is only getting worse–Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy’s mom finds out, she knows it’s time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he go to the one place he’ll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends–one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena–Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld (located in a recording studio in Hollywood) and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

BEST #OWNVOICES CHILDREN’S BOOKS: My Favorite Diversity Books for Kids Ages 1-12 is a book that I created to highlight books written by authors who share the same marginalized identity as the characters in their books.
I can’t believe I’ve never read any of the Percy Jackson books! The girl I mentor adores them and it’s time for me to get up to speed. 🙂
Hi Danielle,
I once binge read the first 6 books over a weekend; be warned. Percy Jackson is very addicting!! 🙂
My daughter is a massive fan of Rick Riordan and we’ve read all the books, but we got them all from the library, so she would be so excited to have them in her possession. 🙂 Thanks for hosting the giveaway. We are excited to check out Magnus Chase, too!
Hi Joy,
Thanks for entering!! You remind me I need to draw a winner!
Can’t believe it’s been 10 years. Since my kids were older when he started publishing this series, I’ve only read The Lightning Thief. What a great way to get kids reading!
Hi Patrica,
I know!! I can’t believe it’s been 10 years either! Rick Riordan went from being a history teacher to making $65 million a year! I remember when my friend Lynn told me about The Lightening Thief and loaned me her dog earred copy from her son who is now 15. He was a reluctant reader too so any books he liked I took note. I think he was in 3rd grade at the time.
Travis Stoll is dd’s favorite character. And she’s SUPER stoked about Magnus Chase.
Hi Ten B,
Travis is a great character and I’m so glad he gets a shout out since he’s not a lead character!!! Tell DD thanks!!
I love the Percy Jackson series. I think this is the best tool yet to getting boys, who don’t like to read, engage. I have seen first hand that Rick Riordan’s book have done for getting boys to read and actually conversate about the characters and the plot. It’s awesome! Thanks for the chance to win!
Thanks so much for entering Kristi!!
I had one student really get into these last year and this year I hope to encourage even more.
Hi Karen,
I hope you get more too! It’s such a great series!!
I want to share these books with some of our older students…I think they will love them.
Hi Leslie,
Thanks for sharing!!
What a perfect way to get more students hooked on the series!
Hi Sandra,
I’m so glad it works!
My son and I read a lot of chapter books out loud. We keep checking back at our library for the Percy Jackson series with no luck. This would be an awesome surprise for him!
Hi Sarah A,
Good luck and thanks for entering!
Can’t wait for the new book!
Hi Nancy,
Me and my son too!!! We are reading every book he writes!
My students LOVE this series!
Hi LT,
That makes me so happy!! My son and I love it too and my eldest but not my middle. We always tell that one that she’s missing out. She doesn’t like Fantasy Action Adventure in general though.
I’ve only read the five books in the Percy Jackson series (not the companion books, nor the later Olympus series, nor the Kane Chronicles), but I LOVED them! I don’t know that I had a favorite character, but I remember liking each book more than the last, making The Last Olympian my favorite. We don’t own them, and we haven’t gotten around to getting them from the library yet. I think my oldest daughter is ready for them now, and my guess is she will love them, too. Magnus Chase sounds fabulous.
Hi Danzel,
We are so excited for Magnus Chase too! I hope your oldest enjoys them too!
I haven’t read this series, but I’ve heard so many good things about it 🙂
Hi Akaleistar,
It’s a great series if you like fast paced adventure and mythology. I love how the cast of characters is diverse by the second series too with strong female characters. It also covers geography because they travel the world during their adventures.
Ever since he was introduced, my favorite character has always been Nico di Angelo and I am very excited to get to know Magnus Chase.
Hi Shivella,
Nico is a great character! I’m glad Riordan makes an effort to show diverse and inclusive characters. We can’t wait for Magnus Chase either. We’ve been reading Norse mythology to get ready and it’s so different from Greek or Roman. It’s a little confusing as the Norse gods are not as black and white — good vs bad — as I am used to.
My children love these books!
Hi Katrina,
Thanks so much for entering!
This would be the perfect chance for me to read the rest of the series!
Hi Rebecca,
It’s such a great series! Thanks for entering!
percy of course is my favorite character
Hi Rebecca,
What’s not to love about Percy?!
Nico is one of my favorite characters. And yes, I’m def excited for the new Norse book!
Hi Amanda,
It always makes me happy when Nico gets picked!
I’ve only read the first Percy Jackson book, and I thought he was pretty cool!
Hi Sherry,
Thanks so much for entering!
Looking forward to the time when my kids are old enough to read the series. Only one or two years away, I think.
Hi Shelley,
I hope they like it as much as my kids and I do!
Nico, Leo, Percy and Reyna are my favorite characters. Also super excited for Magnus Chase!!
Hi Melissa,
Reyna is such a great character!! Thanks for adding her!! I feel like she gets overshadowed because the cast of characters is so large but she’s an exceptional leader with such a great backstory!!
Jason is my favorite character.
Hi Margo,
Jason is a great character!
Percy is my favorite character.
Hi GK,
He is such a great character!! Now I want to have water powers too!
I love all the characters in the series so picking just one is a challenge in itself. Percy of course, but to choose just one…Annabeth.
Hi C Fowler,
I’m so glad Annabeth is getting a vote! She’s one of my favorites too!
Hi C Fowler,
Glad Annabeth is getting some love! 🙂
