I discovered the first Noah Zarc chapter book a few years ago and I loved it! It has the same action adventure as a Percy Jackson chapter book but with time travel! I also like that Noah just so happens to have special needs — he’s in a wheelchair — but it doesn’t impede his ability to be a hero and it’s presented as “no big deal.”
In this first book, humans a thousand years in the future time travel back in time to capture pairs of animals now extinct so that they may eventually be returned to the future earth for repopulation after the Cataclysm. It seems that humans have destroyed the earth and killed off every last species of animals in our not-so-distant future during a bad time called Cataclysm but that can easily be imagined as a nuclear disaster. Only Noah’s family is allowed to time travel back for the animal rescue mission but it’s a dangerous job, more so because of Haon, the bad guy, who wants this repopulation of earth’s animals plan to fail.
A Noah’s Arc story, of sorts, but action-packed!

My middle daughter, Picky Kid Pix, also rejects any and all action adventure series including but not limited to Percy Jackson, Harry Potter, and the like! It’s not her thing either. She likes realistic fiction and Newbery award winning books. My oldest daughter and my son both love this type of series though, as do I!

I’ve seen Noah’s Zark reviewed on anotherbook. What a great concept for a book. My 8-yerar-old ganddaughter is quite ready for series like this. Sounds like more of a MG than Chapter with the page count.

Yes, it’s middle grade but 8 years old is fine if she also like Percy Jackson or Harry Potter. It’s a little suspenseful so that would be my only caution. But not as suspenseful as Harry Potter or Percy Jackson which gets downright scary at times!
