VTech Tablet for Kids

Posted on December 14, 2013May 18, 2024 by Pragmatic Mom

I am proud to be writing about VTech toys today as part of a sponsored campaign with Social Moms. I was always a wooden toy kind of mom but when my kids were young, I would buy a few times a year, very carefully, a “bells and whistles” electronic toy for them. It might be for Christmas or a birthday. It had to have an educational angle to it or be a toy that had longevity. And it was ALWAYS a VTech toy.

There was the Alphabet Apple. I think that was the first VTech toy I bought. The new one comes with numbers; ours didn’t. My kids liked lugging it around by the handle though they didn’t play with this as much I would have liked.

The VTech Driving Toy was gold for me. This looked fun so I bought it and it entertained my kids for a very long time. My kids loved shifting gears while steering the driver’s wheel and I liked that there was an educational element hidden as they happily drove.

The toy my kids fought over the most was the VTech Laptop Computer. Even as toddlers, the lure of a computer was irresistible. They loved using that mouse, which they thought looked just like a real computer. I’m convinced that using the keyboard helped them learn their letters and then small words.

I get contacted frequently about websites, apps and computers that allow for communication with a pre approved list of people, thereby keeping kids safe from internet predators. I usually pass on these, not that computer safety isn’t a concern for me; it’s more the set up is complicated and the cost is high. There’s also the issue of teaching your kids how to be safe online, rather than putting them into a bubble of protection.

But when I learned that VTech has a product for this, I was intrigued. VTech just understands kids and parents from my past experience. I knew that their product would make sense and have a price tag that is not astronomical or include a monthly fee.

Vtech nnotab 3S Kid connect tablet.

VTech has a learning tablet for kids called VTech Kid Connect. It’s an app meant to let the family communicate using the InnoTab 3S tablet, a tablet designed for kids, ages 3 through 9.

What can you do with it? It allows kids to create their own voice messages, text messages, drawings, animated stickers, and photos to their parents’ smartphones. It’s exactly the kind of communications you’d want from your kids if they were able to contact you via a computer! If your kids have cousins or friends that are not nearby, they can communicate safely back and forth using two InnoTab 3S tablet. These tablets allow mutual communication like a real smart phone anywhere in the world, regardless of distance!

The ability to communicate is a powerful motivator for kids to learn to type and learn words through texting. Keeping in touch with loved ones is a gift that keeps on giving! For families with relatives that are far-flung, this might be the perfect holiday gift!

To learn more please visit VTech’s site, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or YouTube. Here’s where the VTech Tablet is sold.

The fine print:

The InnoTab 3S comes with a one year free subscription of Basic Kid Connect, which allows users to send text messages and stickers; a Premium Kid Connect subscription, available on VTech’s app store, offers the enhanced features of voice messages, photos and drawings.

InnoTab 3S also features a kid-safe web browser, rechargeable battery and 20 free apps, all for $79.99.

I had the Alphabet Apple for my daughter and son. I love it and have always loved vtech products to help my children learn and play simultaneously. They make great teaching tools.

My baby would love this tablet. Maybe not as much as she does the iPad, but she’ll love it just the same.
