Are you reading ebooks with your kids this summer? I find that my son likes to read both paper and ebooks. Sometimes when I’m trying to get something done, an eBook that reads to him is a big convenience. But we are picky readers. A free eBook is only good for us if it’s a great book. I’m sure you are the same! It takes time and data storage to download an ebook. These are the best free eBooks for kids that passed our test.
1) Oxford Owl (click to right by age to find free eBooks) has 250 free ebooks. You can sort by age, book type, or series.
These are especially good!
2) The Worst-Case Scenario: An Ultimate Adventure Novel. Amazon, Mars and Everest are free to download.
The Worst-Case Scenario: An Ultimate Adventure Novel: Amazon: You Decide How to Survive! (Worst Case Scenario) by David Borgenicht, Hena Kahn and illustrated by Yancey Labat.
A new thrill ride begins in the Amazon rainforest with the latest novel in the Worst-Case Scenario Ultimate Adventure series! Join an expedition of students exploring the Amazon jungle and face real dangers and decisions. Your choices will determine your fate. Will you survive your encounters with piranhas, tarantulas, mosquitoes, monkeys, and jaguars? Or will you be forced to return home early? Only you can decide how to survive. There are twenty-two possible endings to this adventure, but only ONE leads to ultimate success! Featuring dynamic comic book style illustrations, and based on real, true-life facts about the Amazon, this story will be a surefire hit with anyone craving a fun, highly visual reading experience.

I’m not finding the books from the Goodreads list for free. Maybe some of them were at one time, but not having luck now; spotchecked a few. Suggestions?
Hi Susie,
You’re right! Sorry about that. I just removed it from my post and I’ve found another site of classic children’s books that can be read for free at their site. It’s not as good but that’s all I can find.
Thanks for sharing….as always good suggestions!
Hi Barbara,
Thanks! Unfortunately, the Goodreads link to free ebooks for kids was not longer valid. The books are no longer free so I replaced with with free classics for kids which you can read on a website.
Free books are great. I am going to check out all of these except number three, we already have it ; ) Thanks for including it! Just read Enchanted Learning’s counting book, very fun! My son’s favorite free ebook is Pie-Rits although not sure it is still free on Amazon.
I love your books Ann and I’m excited to see what happens with your publishing project!!
Great recommendations. We usually check \\\”Addicted to eBooks\\\” (for some reason I am not allowed to put its URL in comments) daily to look for hidden gems. Our Kindle library is pretty big by now 🙂
Thanks Natalie,
CommentLuv, I think, doesn’t let urls into the comments because of the spammers. Thank you for your great recommendation for free ebooks: Addicted to eBooks. Here’s that link: http://addictedtoebooks.com/
Would you ever be interested in posting as my guest on your Kindle library and you and your kids favs? I’d love that!
Definitely need to check these out for my book-loving kiddos – they will be great to have for our road trip! Thanks!
Hi MaryAnne,
I’d love to hear what your kids liked and how it compares to the GenZ Read Together program. Hope your cross country drive is going well!
I bought a copy of doodles and jots for my daughter. She loved it!
