Gifts for Mail Carrier to Cleaning Person
The first step is to make a list of everyone who helps you. Our list gets shorter and shorter as the years go by and we no longer have a regular babysitter and have eliminated our newspaper in favor of online publications. Still, there is always the sanitation engineer and the letter carrier. We have a super nice letter carrier who really puts in extra effort to sort out packages that need signatures but I’m not home, and will also ask for our outgoing mail. I want to do something nice for him this year!
I don’t do the mani/pedi, get regular facials, have a dog walker or a personal trainer but I tried to make a complete list for mom friends that do.
- Babysitters
- Dog Walker
- Personal Trainer, Fitness Instructor
- Sanitation Engineer
- Letter Carrier
- Paper Delivery Person
- Cleaning People
- Hair Stylist
- Facialist
- Mani/Pedi
- Gardener
I think it’s nice to give a handwritten card or your holiday card with a gift certificate. You can’t go wrong with gift cards for iTunes, Starbucks or Target. Women can always find a small indulgence at Sephora. Cash is also good if you hand deliver it. Capability:Mom has more ideas too!

Gifts to letter carriers are a violation of federal law.
Hi Ellen,
Yikes, I did not know that! Any size gift or is there a threshold that is allowed?
I have to add the milkman to my list! I was actually going to give my mailman a food gift, maybe that is acceptable??
Hi Emily,
I’m sure your milkman would love it! He must get hungry driving around all day!
If you go to “help” and the “frequently asked questions”, it’s the second question on the list or “All postal employees, including carriers, must comply with the Standards of Ethical Conduct for Employees of the Executive Branch. Under these federal regulations, carriers are permitted to accept a gift worth $20 or less from a customer per occasion, such as Christmas. However, cash and cash equivalents, such as checks or gift cards that can be exchanged for cash, must never be accepted in any amount. Furthermore, no employee may accept more than $50 worth of gifts from any one customer in any one calendar year. You may find this rule here.” Thanks for clarification from Ellen!
Huh, I didn’t know the mailman rules! Great gift ideas, too – your Mod Podge link wouldn’t work for me?
Hi MaryAnne,
Yikes, let me fix that Mod Podge link. Sorry about that!
Helpful list, my list is short but there are a few and I definitely like to remember them during the holidays.
Hi Ann,
I need to get something this week for my list as well.
Very helpful! How do you decide on the gift value?
Hi iGameMom,
We looked up etiquette articles for gift value last year … I think that is where we got our info. Emily Post types. But, please use it as a guideline not as gospel. I think it’s the thought that counts and if this adds up to too much $, home made gifts or even a hand written thank you is wonderful!
Love this, such a great idea!
Thanks so much Mari! Am so enjoying your blog! I didn’t realize you lived in Equador! Loved your post for Mama Smiles today!
