Music Videos Teach Middle School Science, Math and Grammar
The idea of using rock and roll to teach science appeals to me. I’m not sure how it would go over for Middle School. Will songs about math make math fun? Is it a way to so that math is fun? It seems like it would be a fun way to learn Newton’s laws of physics. And, if a band came to school to perform, wouldn’t that be a nice change of pace?
KlabLab’s first album focuses on concepts commonly covered in 5th-8th-grade science classes. If you want information about booking KlabLab for your school, contact Joe O’Loughlin (joe@klablab.com) for more information.
Here are some of their songs.
Algebra Math Song
Mathematical Order of Operations.
Grammar Songs for Parts of Speech
Pronoun Hoedown.
Preposition Punk.
Science Songs for Physics and Biology
Newton’s Law of Physics.
Cell City – cellular structure and function.
What do you think of the effectiveness of educational songs? I know that I can’t think of conjunctions without singing Conjunction Junction (What’s Your Function?! Hooking up nouns … see what I mean?!)

Oh, this makes a lot of sense! They’re learning songs for everything now. I’m a big fan of this method of learning.
Hi Artchoo,
I grew up on Schoolhouse Rock so I’m glad to see that these types of videos have made it to the next generation. I guess these are cooler now too! It is a good way to learn. I swear that I can’t think of a conjunction (like in a Mad Libs) with out thinking “Conjunction Junction, what’s your function? Hooking up nouns and something and something.”
It’s always been a good way to learn languages, so this is a great idea. I’d have been much better at math and science had I had this 🙂
Hi Catherine,
I could have used this too! I was bad at math and science too!
Love this! If I was a teacher I would definitely use these!!!
Hi Ann,
I might make my kids watch them too! To “evaluate” the videos … you know!
I fully support the “add music to science” approach; in fact, I maintain a database of over 6,000 math and science songs (from all sources) to help teachers and others find songs related to their content. If you want to check it out, go to SingAboutScience.org and click on “Find/Add Songs.”
Hi Greg,
Thanks so much for sharing your great resource of math and science songs for kids! That’s so helpful!
I wanted to check out the Newton’s Laws song but the link doesn’t work. Can you help me find it?
Hi Kelly,
I just added that video for you. Sorry for the broken link.
