Do You Shop for Boys Online for Back to School?

My 7-year-old never used to be so picky about his clothes. That domain was for his older sister, PickyKidPix, who is tortured if her clothes don’t meet her tactile standards. His oldest sister, Grasshopper and Sensei, is the opposite. She hates shopping for clothes. In their own way, all my kids are pains in the keesters when it comes to back to school clothes shopping.

My son is small for his age also and hasn’t had huge growth spurts so the hand me down clothes from his best friend, a grade older and a head taller, seem to last for years! He also has a tendency to wear the same favorite shirts over and over again so it makes sense to buy a few nice ones since they will get serious mileage.

He’s also particular about the shirt themes. Guitar YES! All other instruments NO! Skateboard YES! Most other sports NO! Dragons used to be YES! Now, NO! Cars, trucks, trains? NO! Local sports teams YES! Sweatpants YES! Sloppy look YES! Pokemom NO. Was YES last year. Superheroes NO.

But mom says NO to extreme sloppy look.

I can go on and on.

Sweaters NO! Layered shirts YES! Jackets YES but prone to losing. Polo shirts only for golf course.

So, I decided to shop at Tea Collection and these were approved by my picky son. Which is good because I can shop online and be done without losing my mind with buying and returning rejects like I normally do.

Please share your tips on back to school shopping! I could use them! Thanks!

Kalmari Layered shirt, $30

My son says, “I like it a lot.”

Lucky Dragon Pajamas, $39

“I really need pajamas and I like it.”

Cariclops Tee, $30

“I like it a little less but I still really like it.”

Caribou Plaid Hoodie, $49

“I really like it.”

$100 will be well spent because the pants will last a year (we fold down the waistband for the first 6 months when it’s a tad big). The shirts will last two years because he doesn’t mind wearing them a big baggy like a sweatshirt. He will wear them as a layer with a short sleeve shirt underneath for the dead of winter as well when it gets below freezing here.

My son and I enjoyed this post! He really likes the squid especially and will definitely check out the Tea Collection. He is the same, no more super heroes but Star Wars is okay. He used to like tigers and now it’s sharks. My daughter could care less about clothes. She likes whatever I pick just fine as long as it is comfortable.

I get lots of really nice hand me downs from a mom friend who loves to shop, so that is great. I will do what you did too and go on line to get a few special things that I know they will love. I usually check out Old Navy and Children’s Place and maybe Target too for basics. Always get quality shoes for them. Stride Rite or Merrells.

    • Hi Ann,
Sounds like you are ready for back to school shopping. My son likes tigers too, and has always liked dragons, guitars and drums. But no stripes of any kind. They are so funny, aren’t they? You are lucky to get such good hand me downs! I get some for my son which is very helpful. My middle daughter won’t accept many hand me downs from her sister and they are also built differently. I like to get good shoes too for my kids. I think it’s better for their feet.

I’m loving the squid shirt, too. We roll pants down around here, too; My skinny kid can’t fit into anything that should fit his age!

    • Hi Artchoo!
I gotta get the adjustable waistbands for my son! With my middle daughter, we use safety pins to tighten the waistband until she grows into them. The squid shirt hasn’t arrived yet, but it’s getting good reviews. I’ll have to explore more ocean life forms on shirts for my son! I think he’d love sharks!
