Gifts for Dads and Father-in-Laws
Yikes, is it Father’s Day so soon?! Why am I never prepared? I racked my brain for gifts that I would give my husband and father-in-law for father’s day. My husband likes to play golf, so I have a good assortment of ideas for men who like golf. I hope this helps.
My kids also gave me ideas — the Swiss Army Knife is from PickyKidPix who noticed that her dad kept getting his confiscated at airport security and was in need of a replacement.
Toys for Boys
Swiss Army Knife for key chain $12
iPod Nano, $118 (can wear as watch too!)
Golf Books
My husband collects them. He wrote a post of his favorites here (and he’s a zero handicapper!).
Zen Golf: Mastering The Mental Game by Joseph Parent
The best players know that golf is a game of confidence, and most important, concentration–the ability to focus and block out distraction. The goal of achieving clear thought is also at the heart of Buddhist teachings. In his highly original and groundbreaking book, noted PGA coach and Buddhist instructor, Dr. Joseph Parent, draws on this natural connection and teaches golfers how to clear their minds, achieve ultimate focus, and play at the moment for each shot.
Zen Golf presents a simple system for building “mental game mastery.” Dr. Parent’s unique PAR Approach (focusing on Preparation, Action, and Response to Results) guides golfers with specific techniques for each aspect of their games. In chapters such as “How to Get From the Practice Tee to the First Tee”, “You Produce What You Fear”, and “How to Enjoy a Bad Round of Golf”, the author shares a personal teaching regimen that has helped improve the games of professionals and amateurs alike. By combining classic insights and stories from Zen tradition, Zen Golf helps eliminate the mental distractions that routinely cause poor shots and loss of concentration, allowing golfers to feel in “the zone” that professionals have learned to master.
Clear, concise, and enlightening, Zen Golf shows golfers how to prepare for, execute, and equally important, respond to the results of any golf shot. A different approach to golf instruction, this book shapes ancient philosophies into new teachings.
Fifty Places to Play Golf Before You Die: Golf Experts Share the World’s Greatest Destinations by Chris Santella
There’s an incredible similarity between the mechanics of a fly cast and the swing of a golf club. Perhaps that’s why Chris Santella, author of Fifty Places to Fly Fish Before You Die, can be found on the links when he’s not on the stream. With Fifty Places to Play Golf Before You Die, Santella gives voice to his other sporting passion, interviewing 50 people intimately connected to the sport about some of their favorite courses around the world.

A brief history of each course, an experiential account-filled with local color-from the person recommending the venue, and trip-planning advice provide adventurous readers with all the information they need to chip and putt their way around the globe.

Golf Gear
Retro Golf Shirts for Surfer Golfing Dads
My husband’s latest discovery is these 100% cotton retro inspired golf shirts by start up Johnnie-O. I like that they hold up after many washings. This is Surfer Meets Golfer, and as a Southern Cali girl, I LIKE!
Sunglasses
My husband likes these lightweight sunglasses by Maui Jim. You have to be able to see where your ball lands when you are squinting into the sun!
Custom Logo’d Titleist Golf Balls
My husband will only play with Titleist golf balls of a certain and expensive type that I can’t remember. He likes to gift custom logo’d balls to friends with their golf nickname. It’s also useful as a way to identify an errant ball.
College Logo’d Flip Flops
After a round of golf, your dogs are barking even with soft spikes. He changes to flip-flops for the sometimes long drive home. These flip-flops from Rainbow Sandals are comfortable AND come in your man’s alma mater colors with logo. It’s strange what they like, isn’t it?
